The urban environment is a rich and diverse tapestry of colours and textures. John has been photographing it for many years in various countries. By focusing on the patterns, shapes, and colours of the urban landscape, he creates dynamic and expressive abstract works that capture the character of the urban environment. It provides endless inspiration for the abstract artist, whether through bold design and expressive brushstrokes or subtle and nuanced textures.
While driving across a bridge in London, John was struck by the structure's natural Abstract Expressionist quality. It's a busy bridge with no pavement on one side, so he donned a High-Visibility jacket and used his iPhone as an instant sketchbook to photograph this series. He explored the natural textures, geometry, and colours and drew his inspiration from the great Abstract Expressionist artists.
The Polaroid format is taken from his days as a photography student when he would sell Polaroid originals, mostly beach abstracts, to make money to buy more film.
