Sam Smith is a practising graphic designer and artist working for a London based company.
His works reflect a mixture of his passions - the ‘Blue Note’ Jazz, mid-century design and artists such as Matisse, Paul Klee, Helma af Klint.
Sam’s questioning of design versus art is constant. He considers both art and design are part of the human culture endorsing validity by instilling an aesthetic in his work. This natural and creative crossover becomes the bridge of discovery which leads to the development of his artworks.
‘My vision evolves from the desire to express abstract colour and form then represented in cut-out collages and geometric tapestries. Through this mindful interaction, I enjoy the manipulation of shape and colour and reveal complex themes, storytelling in a vocabulary of visual expression from deep within my psyche. In this way, it enables me to express my own music within life’s upbeat rhythm, finding the positive in the negative - the tune of my soul.
