This body of work, The Solid State, covers 11 years and presents constructed threads and fibres influenced by the information highway and neural networks right through to representations of complexity and the cosmos.
Understanding weaving, fibres and threads, is to understand the nature of networks, organic or otherwise. Here, Linda Green draws a parallel between high-speed digital data and inert ‘soft’ networks, both micro and macro.
Her creations, soft and fibrous, make them the most unlikely conductors of data and herein lies the ambiguity and intrigue of her work. Capacitors, transistors, diodes and nerve cells are translated into woven blocks and constructed assemblages, visually related by colour and floated onto inert backgrounds. Whether soft or digital, each component performs its task without movement or any visible indication that it is working. Her depictions of complexity teem with life and activity.
