The inspiration and representation behind this series of paintings was influenced by the natural process of Longshore Drift.
This is the ever changing coastal process of erosion, attrition and degradation leading to sedimentation by deposition. Over time, a process which ultimately reshapes our coastline.
Through the continual swash and backwash of the waves, the changing tides, currents and wind, work to create a natural dynamic evolution of the coast. This continual and unrelenting process of change can be measured, plotted and an outcome predicted, but is one that cannot ultimately be arrested.
From this, Keith drew parallels. ‘These shifting sands over time reflect our own unceasing and perpetual necessity for change, our innate progression, our inability to stand still, all of which can be predicted, measured and observed but ultimately the force for continual change remains, in effect, unchanged.’
