With a background is in Printmaking and Graphic Design, John Bullock has worked as a Brand Consultant in London for over forty years.
My working process is an intuitive one; I give my unconscious mind the freedom to express itself in reaction to abstract shapes and fragments of ephemera. There are purposeful randomness and physical consequence of this dialogue between myself and the elements I am using.
Generally, my compositions are purely abstract in form, with shapes, tones and colours that connect on the page. Sometimes my subconscious brings elements together to create a narrative as I work, and, occasionally, these suggest darker and more sombre themes. The result is always random; I do not set out to tell a specific story in my work.
I want the results to be evocative and sensually appealing in some way. Any connection with the viewer should be an emotional one based purely on the content and abstract qualities of shape, form, texture, type and colour.
